Volunteer
Member Volunteers Needed
Currently we are in need of another member for our website team, a chairman for Grants 4 Native Plants, Education Outreach Coordinators, and many of our officer positions will open at the end of the year.
How to Volunteer
- Are you a member of TNPS? To be a volunteer you must first become a member.
- Check the Volunteer Roles below to see which ones might be appropriate for you.
- Tap the “Volunteer” button below to help us match you to an appropriate TNPS volunteer position.
The Tennessee Native Plant Society welcomes plant enthusiasts, gardeners, educators, and all community members who want to support our biodiversity and restore native habitats. Member volunteers are the foundation of our mission.
If you are interested in volunteering, we will provide training/guidance/mentoring – whatever is needed to help you be an effective TNPS member volunteer.
This is a great opportunity to acquire a new skill and help TNPS in the process. As TNPS has grown our needs have become more complex, more challenging, and more time consuming, which has challenged our small group of officers who wish to maintain (or even improve upon) the level of excellence of our organization. Many hands make lighter work. Please consider contributing your skills and experience as a TNPS member volunteer.
Volunteer Roles
Digital Tech Support
Manage Dropbox photo and document libraries and Zoom account. Format and upload YouTube videos; distribute links as needed. Format photos as needed for online publication.
Education Outreach Coordinators
Identify and support tabling events representing TNPS in your region. Includes registering TNPS (at our expense) to participate in local festivals and events, booth set up, introducing visitors to TNPS, selling the wildflower books along with other selected materials and reporting sales results to TNPS leadership. Involves handling of both cash sales and online sales through use of a QR code and related links to Neon CRM. We spend lots of time talking about native plants and being a plant nerd for the day.
Event Organizers
Prepare brief descriptions of scheduled TNPS sponsored events, create online events in Neon CRM to permit online registration, monitor registration to address any questions or issues from interested parties and provide occasional reports for the field trip leader with names and numbers of attendees prior to the event.
Field Trip Leaders
Serve as trip leader for the field trip. Plan one or more field trips to natural areas and/or botanical sites to be offered to TNPS members and the public. Create brief field trip descriptions including meet-up time and location for uploading into the TNPS website and advertising on the TNPS Facebook page. Develop a field trip report for inclusion in the newsletter and posting on the TNPS Facebook page.
Information Analysts
Conduct analysis of membership and other data in the Neon CRM system and provide reports to the TNPS leadership as requested. Help to identify trends and opportunities to increase membership and/or address membership issues. Extract information from the Neon CRM system that can be used to inform membership of the progress of TNPS for a given period such as creation of a quarterly report. Assist with maintenance of the membership system in Neon CRM.
Mentors for Grant Recipients
Work with grant recipients to help plan their use of the grant funds. This may include assisting the grantee with design of a small garden for planting native plants, selection of native plants to be included, and planting schedule. It does not include doing the work. Serve as a point of contact for questions from the grantee. Provide periodic status to TNPS leadership on progress of the project.
Nature Photographers
Create photos of native plants for publication on the TNPS Facebook and Instagram pages, and print media such as TNPS brochures. Photograph selected TNPS events such as education outreach and the TNPS Annual Conference.
Neon CRM Support
Assist TNPS leadership with assessing new features and/or the rollout of new features, such as the implementation of new membership categories and related changes to membership dues.
Newsletter Editor and Assistants
Collect articles including photos for the quarterly TNPS newsletters. Revise each article to align with standard editorial guidelines. Assemble articles into newsletter format. Distribute newsletter drafts to TNPS leadership for review prior to publication. When finalized, send the newsletter to the assigned contact for email distribution and to the printer for mailing of hardcopy newsletters.
Social Media Editors
Develop posts for TNPS Facebook and Instagram pages. Create advance notice of online events, field trips and other scheduled events. Share some of what was seen at our events.
Technical Support Analysts
Field requests from members for assistance with user login issues, technical questions on updating the user’s profile in Neon CRM. Address problems reported via the TNPS Support Line (support@tnps.org).
Webmaster Assistants
Provide ongoing assistance with defining and implementing website updates under the direction of the Webmaster. An example may be posting notification of new field trips or seminars that have been scheduled. Some knowledge and/or experience with website development tools is preferred, but not required.
