Field Trip: Spring Wildflower Hike at Big Soddy Creek Gulf Park, Hamilton County

Description
On this hike, we will explore in depth the ecology, spring wildflowers, and temperate deciduous forest of the Big Soddy Creek Gulf Park. Topics will include local geology, the forest system, plant interactions, wildflower life histories, and wildflower identification. The hike will take place along a 1.2-mile trail from the trailhead to the pedestrian bridge at Soddy Creek. Some short side trips may be included.
A bonus hike has been added to this field trip! Attendees interested in continuing their wildflower adventure beyond Big Soddy Gulf can join an afternoon hike at North Chickamauga Creek State Park, about 10 miles from Big Soddy Gulf. Bring a lunch and plan to attend the bonus hike afterwards to see the different wildflower species blooming there. Please note that this bonus hike is contingent upon the North Chickamauga Creek State Park being open to visitors.
