FieldTrip: Wildflower Spot at Rock Creek, Lower Leggett Trailhead, Sale Creek, Hamilton County

Description This is an amazing spot along Rock Creek for finding early spring ephemerals, carpets of partridgeberry, Gelsemium, and natural hybrids of painted and red buckeye, as well as some old growth Hemlock, striped maple, and large leaf magnolia. It’s covered in trout lilies with pockets of blood root, fork leaf toothwort, foamflowers, southern barren strawberry, wood anemone, Ozark tassel-rue and several violet species.
Meeting Place/Time The Lower Leggett trailhead is located near the base of the escarpment where Leggett Rd starts its ascent. Google Maps, https://maps.app.goo.gl/xxjjUPby8mEtDnpQA There is ample parking at the trailhead. We will meet at 10:00 AM Eastern.
Difficulty The trail is mostly easy, out and back and only about 1.2 miles each way, but rocky, uneven and steep in spots. It also can be muddy at a potential shallow water rocky crossing.
