Wild Strawberry
Fragaria virginiana

One of the most prized of all our native fruits, wild strawberry produces small, luscious, sweet berries in late
spring.  The seeds reside in depressions on the surface of the fruit.
F. virginiana has been crossed with the
Chilean native
F. chiloensis to produce our modern hybrid market strawberries.  Wild strawberry imparts its
intense fragrance and sweet taste to the hybrid offspring.
