Carolina Spider Lily
Hymenocallis caroliniana
This Amaryllis relative is a common inhabitant of riverbanks and wet woodlands throughout
Tennessee. The large white flowers are unique in shape, with the united stamens and corolla
forming a cup above the six tepals. The flower stalks extend a couple of feet above the strap-like
foliage and are topped by 3-7 blossoms. Look for this lovely species in August to see its striking
floral display.
